Quabbin Fawn

Route 9, Belchertown

Photograph and text by Anne E. Ely, South Hadley,

While driving through the Quabbin Reservoir late one afternoon recently I saw two cars parked, one on each side of the road. Ok. Which side to I look on and for what? I then saw someone with a camera on the left side, so I slid out of my car to look and saw a doe up in the edge of the woods.

She didnโ€™t seem alarmed when she saw me, so I slowly went a bit farther up off the edge of the road, hoping all the ticks were somewhere else. I then saw the fawn, who also did not seem alarmed to see me, but kept playing peek-a-boo through the branches. I was without my tripod, so I leaned my hand held DSLR camera up against a tree for this capture with a medium length telephoto lens.
