NORTHAMPTON — A Northampton woman is being held on $10,000 bail after allegedly robbing a Main Street bank during the Pride Parade.
Jennifer L. Brumer, 37, pleaded not guilty in Hampshire Superior Court Tuesday to charges of attempted unarmed robbery and unarmed robbery.
Brumer was found “preliminarily incompetent to stand trial” in Northampton District Court on a charge of unarmed robbery.
Northampton Police responded to a report of a bank robbery at TD Bank on Main Street Saturday, May 6, around 1:30 p.m. The female suspect entered the bank and gave a teller a note that read, “Give me the money. Let me go. No one will get hurt,” Detective Michael Briggs wrote in the police report.
A description was given out of the suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt that zipped up over the face with light blue and black skulls on the front and a Mohawk on the back. An officer soon spotted a woman matching that description in the area of 185 Pleasant St. and called another officer, Sgt. Patrick Moody, to the scene.
Moody recognized the woman, whom he identified as Brumer, and asked if she had any money, Briggs wrote. Brumer allegedly told police she only had a few dollars on her and when asked to show the money she “inadvertently showed” Moody a clear plastic bag containing cash, the detective wrote.
Inside the bag, police said, they found $485. Brumer said she had spent $15 on two beers, a nip, a pack of cigarettes and a lighter at a nearby Millennium Package Store, Briggs wrote.
At the police station, Brumer allegedly told police she should have changed her clothing afterward.
She has been held since her arrest at the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center in Chicopee.
