WHATELY — The $1.3 million Town Hall rehabilitation project is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
The town recently received a $164,310 grant from the state Department of Energy Resources to help fund the project.
At Town Meeting this year, residents voted to move forward with the project, allowing $340,000 in Community Preservation Act money and $315,000 from last year’s $1.2 million American Tower Corp. cell tower sale to be spent. As of March, town officials had applied for another $550,000 in state grants, adding to nearly $100,000 already raised through private solicitation.
The project includes renovating the historic building’s plumbing system, installing energy-efficient insulation and windows, updating heating and cooling units, and building a small addition for new stairs and a handicapped-accessible lift.
