ORANGE — A man suspected of fatally shooting a 48-year-old woman in Wendell last week has been taken into custody.
Lewis H. Starkey was arrested Sunday in Orange on charges of murder, armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
Starkey, 53, had been sought by police since Wednesday, when he allegedly shot and killed 48-year-old Amanda Glover with a shotgun in the house they shared at 179 West St in Wendell.
Police say he then drove to the Specialized Trucking company in Chicopee, where he fired through a window, injuring an employee, before the gun jammed and the employee was able to wrench it away. Starkey had been on the run since then.
District attorney’s office spokeswoman Mary Carey said Starkey was arrested without incident by Orange police. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Orange District Court, according to Carey.
On its Facebook page Sunday, the Chicopee Police Department reported that Starkey was arrested at 9:15 a.m. He was in the same red Lincoln SUV he was reported to be driving at the time of the alleged crimes.
