SUNDERLAND — A 10-wheel dump truck rolled over on Route 47 Tuesday morning between the center of town and Falls Road, hitting a utility pole and knocking out power.

No one was hurt in the accident. Police shut down the road at North Silver Lane and Falls Road, rerouting traffic around the site.

The initial speculation by the Sunderland Police Department and state police was that a power line was hanging low and then caught the top of the empty dump truck. This lifted the truck up partially in the air, according to the driver of the truck, who told police about the accident.

“He went through quite a ride,” Sunderland Police Chief Eric Demetropoulos said.

Police estimated that North Main Street would be closed until about 1 p.m. The truck’s driver was shaken up but walked off on his own.

The state police’s special commercial truck investigative team was called to check out what went wrong at the scene.

All of the 246 households that had lost power were up and running by around 10:30 a.m., according to Eversource’s outages map.

Demetropoulos noted an alert was sent out to the public by the town’s CodeRED emergency alert system, which was recently launched townwide.
