I was pleased to read of the planned improvements to the Amtrak station (“Northampton’s popularity among rail riders boosts push for more service,” June 26). I hope the city will also consider improving the parking options.

On a recent trip to New York, I was disappointed to find that the nearest long-term parking is available only at the parking garage. This solution is both inconvenient and expensive.

Since many Amtrak riders are, like me, from out of town, the best current alternative is a high-cost taxi. Wouldn’t it be preferable for this revenue stream to flow to Northampton’s city coffers?
