DEERFIELD — State police arrested two people on charges of trafficking in heroin and cocaine after a traffic stop around 2:10 a.m. Tuesday on Routes 5 and 10 at Elm Street.
State police stopped a black 2004 Ford Explorer after determining that the plates on the vehicle belonged to another car. This led to an investigation of the vehicle, with the help of a Deerfield police officer and a state police K-9 trooper.
Police said they found 154 grams, or approximately 5.4 ounces, of what is thought to be heroin, and 54 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine.
The driver, Nathaniel Aikens, 31, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and passenger Janiqua Wright, 22, of Richmond, Va., were both charged with trafficking heroin and cocaine, conspiracy to violate drug laws and unlawfully attaching plates. Wright was also charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
