NORTHAMPTON — A foot slip led one Easthampton motorist to hit another vehicle then crash into a King Street bank Friday.

Northampton Police were called to 67 King St. around 2:30 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a 2011 Honda Accord crashed into the front of Northampton Cooperative Bank.

Police said the driver, Adele Steinberg, 85, of Easthampton, was exiting a parking lot when she struck a 2001 BMW that had been traveling south on King Street.

The BMW spun 90 degrees before coming to a stop. The driver, Michael Hochella, 43, of Fairhaven, was not injured in the crash. His three passengers were also uninjured.

“My daughter was pretty shook up but thankfully everyone is OK,” he said in an email to the Gazette.

The Honda continued on, striking a parking meter and bending the post to the ground before hitting the building, according to the police report.

Steinberg told police she was pressing the brake and her foot must have slipped. She was uninjured in the crash. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
