HATFIELD — Two separate incidents on Interstate 91 Thursday — a six-car accident in Hatfield and a car that burst into flames in Holyoke — slowed traffic.

Police said no one was injured in the six-car accident that occurred around 2:30 p.m. between Exit 22 in Hatfield and Exit 24 in Whately.

Trooper John Riley from State Police’s Northampton barracks said everyone involved declined medical attention.

He noted traffic continued to flow while emergency crews worked, “and it didn’t back up significantly.” Hatfield Fire Department was also called to the scene.

In the accident in Holyoke on Interstate 91 south near the Delaney House, Northampton Fire Department and State Police responded to a 2007 Jeep Liberty that caught on fire at 11:20 a.m.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes and emergency officials said the cause is unknown. Traffic was backed up for a couple of miles, according to the fire department.

No one was injured, officials said, and the car was a total loss.
