The Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Hampshire County from Friday, Sept. 8, into Saturday, Sept. 9.

The details – the time and location – haven’t announced. In a statement sent to media this week, Colonel Richard D. McKeon said that the checkpoint “will be operated during varied hours … safety will be assured … and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized. …”

The goal, the statement said, is to increase the public’s awareness about the need to detect and remove drivers operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
