Western Massachusetts could see heavy rain, strong winds and a risk of flash flooding over the next few days as a cold front moves in from the west.
The entire state, except for Berkshire County, is under a hazardous weather outlook as scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to roll in beginning Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton. The system is forecast to remain in the area through Thursday.
Meteorologist Bill Simpson said the system moving in brings a chance for thunderstorms, heavy downpours and potentially severe weather including heavy winds and hail.
“Areas of heavy rainfall will bring a localized flash flood threat late today into Thursday. The axis of heaviest rainfall is uncertain,” the weather service’s outlook reads.
Along with storms, the area will also bring cooler temperatures with highs in the lower 70s Wednesday and Thursday, according to Simpson.
