Criticizes sending surplus military gear to police

This regards the reports “Trump OKs military gear for police,” Aug. 28) and “Trump lifts limits on police military gear,” Aug. 29).

In 2015, police confronted demonstrators following the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, “in riot gear and deployed tear gas, dogs and armored vehicles. At times they also pointed assault rifles at protesters.”

Then-President Barack Obama issued an executive order to stop this. And now, President Donald Trump OKs additional ways to control the public by authorizing more powerful war-like weapons such as high-caliber weapons and grenade launchers.

Enhanced police confrontations to peaceful protesters could quash dissent and help to create a docile society under potentially dictatorial rule. Now, is the president becoming an enemy of the people?
