The recent spate of environmental disasters has reminded us of the dangers — and costs — of a warming climate.
Unfortunately, efforts by environmentalists (and other rational citizens) have too often focused on combating the climate denial that is so prevalent in American politics. As a result, the steps needed to cope effectively with climate change have received relatively little attention.
There is a website (drawdown.org) and accompanying book that describes in detail 100 steps that could stabilize the climate over the next 30 years. While some of the recommended actions (such as solar and wind energy) are well known, the website also describes ways to capture the carbon in the atmosphere.
Rather than trying to fight the forces of denial, shouldn’t we be working together to implement these — and other — scientifically researched strategies?
