NORTHAMPTON — It’s autumn, but it feels like summer. The predicted temperature is so hot, it could be record-breaking.
Today, it’s forecasted to go up to 91 degrees, which would break the record of 89 degrees for Sept. 25, according to meteorologist Bill Simpson from the National Weather Service. The average for the day is 72 degrees, Simpson said.
Simpson said an upper high-pressure ridge has contributed to the heat in the region. The air in the high pressure area is compressed and as it compresses, it warms, he said.
The weather service forecasts a high of 86 degrees on Tuesday and a high of 83 degrees on Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to cool down. The weather service forecasts a high of 76 degrees on Thursday and a high of 69 degrees on Friday.
The weather service also issued a hazardous weather outlook for patchy, dense fog at night and early morning throughout the week.
