AMHERST — The Amherst School Committee on Tuesday selected members for a building committee overseeing a feasibility study for the Fort River Elementary School site.
In May, Town Meeting appropriated $250,000 for a the study, which is to include an in-depth examination of the property, preliminary schematic designs, creation of a community engagement plan and establishment of a school building committee.
Named to that committee were: Eric Nakajima of the Amherst School Committee; Diane Chamberlain, the principal at Fort River; Heather Sheldon, who will represent the school’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council; Jonathan Salvon, a representative from the parent guardian organization; Irene Dujovne, a parent at large; Allison Page and Maria Kopicki, two community members at large; Jean Fay, a district staff member and president of the Amherst-Pelham Education Association; Nicole Singer, a Fort River teacher; and Claire McGinnis, a town finance representative.
In addition to those members, there will also be a town finance representative, a green design and architectural representative and a facilities director, all to be named at a later date.
“We would sincerely like to thank all those who submitted applications, and those community members, educators, administrators, and town employees who will be offering their time and service to do the important work of this committee going forward,” School Committee Chairwoman Phoebe Hazzard said in a statement. “The Committee appreciates the range of experience and expertise represented in this group, and looks forward to working together on behalf of our schools.”
