As the former Ward 6 School Committee representative for 25 years, I know the qualifications and commitment necessary to make a positive impact on our schools.
Since his appointment to School Committee at the beginning of this year, Lonnie Kaufman already has shown integrity, skill, and effectiveness in the position, and I encourage you to join me in voting for him in our upcoming election.
I first met Kaufman over 20 years ago, when we were associated with a grant-funded entrepreneurship program at Northampton High School. Over the course of my time on the School Committee, I spoke with him regularly, and always enjoyed our conversations as his views and ideas were well-researched, thoughtful, and considerate of the varied opinions that drive healthy debate.
We had the opportunity to serve together as colleagues on a principal hiring committee, and I also watched firsthand as Kaufman very effectively carried out his role as co-chair of the Ryan Road School Council, always displaying those same characteristics.
His remarkable understanding of educational best practices, gained through years of research and partnerships with school systems throughout the state, will be invaluable to Northampton public schools. And, of course, his knowledge of relevant occurrences in our district, covering more than 20 years, is just a bonus.
Kaufman already has proven to be a dedicated, intelligent and fair-minded member of the School Committee, and, undoubtedly, will continue to be so. Please join me Nov. 7 in voting for Lonnie Kaufman as Ward 6 School Committee representative.
