We need a mayor who sees the big picture and attends to the details. In December 2013, Mayor David Narkewicz met in our crowded living room with neighbors wanting to save the Clement Street Bridge.
The 120-year-old bridge is a vital crossing over the Mill River in Bay State village, and an original Pratt Truss design, a historic landmark.
Since that living room meeting, with the mayor’s leadership and support, an engineering study has been completed including a viable option for saving the bridge. Working with local legislators led to potential funding for bridge repairs being included in the state’s transportation bond bill.
A letter from Narkewicz is part of the application to the National Register of Historic Places. Soon the Clement Street Bridge will find a spot on the register.
The Friends of the Clement Street Bridge have been on a long road and are still working toward saving the bridge for years to come.
At each vital step along the way, Narkewicz has been true to his word, attending to the big and little things that will lead us to success.
