NORTHAMPTON — A call to police Monday morning for people walking across the Pine Grove Golf Course turned out to be hunters starting early on the first day of shotgun deer hunting season, which runs until Dec. 9.
From Dec. 11-30, primitive firearms such as rifles are allowed for deer hunting. Hunting is not allowed on Sunday.
Northampton Police Officer David Netto said the hunters had permission from the owner to be on the golf course property. He said calls for gunshots will increase during hunting season.
“Use due diligence,” Netto said when a gunshot is heard in a wooded area.
If there’s only one shot, it’s probably a hunter, Netto said. He said the public can call police to investigate if they hear multiple gunshots.
