EASTHAMPTON —The Williston Northampton School will conduct an all-campus lockdown drill Thursday at about 9:20 a.m.
This is part of the school’s emergency-readiness program, and it is being conducted in partnership with local and state police. At the time of the drill, nearby residents in Easthampton may be able to hear the lockdown messages broadcast over the loudspeakers on the main campus and on our Galbraith Field athletic area.
During that time, there will also be increased police presence on the campus to help us make the drill and our readiness as effective as possible
SOUTH HADLEY — Know Your Town’s next session on Thursday will feature a discussion and questions with Sean Fitzgerald, general manager of the South Hadley Electric Department. Fitzgerald is expected to talk about fiber optics, solar energy, electric rates and the future of SHELD-owned land on Old Lyman Road. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Select Board meeting room at Town Hall
Massachusetts State Police will implement a sobriety checkpoint on a Hampshire County road from Saturday into Sunday.
The checkpoint will take place during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured.
HATFIELD — The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts will pick up 20 pallets of donated goods to be distributed in the Holyoke and Springfield areas, with a focus on supporting evacuees from Puerto Rico.
The donated goods are part of food and supply collection drive by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. The statewide drive collected 229 pallets of canned goods and non-perishable foods, bottled water, baby formula and diapers, flashlights, batteries and personal hygiene products will be shipped to Puerto Rico and distributed to disaster survivors.
An additional 35 pallets of goods are being distributed to food banks in Massachusetts that are supporting evacuees from Puerto Rico
