NORTHAMPTON — Snow and freezing rain are in the forecast Tuesday morning, and slippery road conditions are expected, according to the National Weather Service.
“It will be a tough morning commute,” said meteorologist Frank Nocera.
Nocera said snow in the Northampton area is expected to start between 4 and 7 a.m., and could be heaviest between 7 and 10 a.m. Then, at 10 a.m., the snow will turn over to a sleet and icy mixture, with temperatures warming enough so that the precipitation becomes mostly rain in the afternoon.
Meteorologist Kim Buttrick said the service put out a winter weather advisory for hazardous conditions.
Tuesday’s temperatures are expected to reach a high of 35 degrees, then drop down to a low of 19 degrees at night, according to the forecast.
Total snowfall could range from two to five inches, Buttrick said.
An arctic cold front may bring snow squalls to the area Tuesday night into Wednesday, according to the weather service. A period of westerly wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are also possible Wednesday.
