HADLEY — A South Hadley woman was arrested early Friday morning after the vehicle she was driving from North Lane onto Middle Street went through a stop sign and crashed into a snowbank, according to Hadley Police.

Meredith Prough, 21, was arrested at 2:12 a.m. on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to stay within marked lanes, said Sgt. Douglas Costa.

Prough is also facing an additional charge of assault and battery on a police officer after she kicked an officer in the shin during booking at the police station, Costa said.

Officer Jose Cabrera observed the vehicle’s taillights in a Middle Street yard, where Prough and her passengers were trying to get the vehicle freed from the snowbank, Costa said.

A tow truck was called to get the vehicle out of the yard.  Detective Jesse Green said an ambulance also responded to the scene, but no one was transported. The crash remains under investigation, Green said.
