NORTHAMPTON — Snow that started overnight and continued into the afternoon Wednesday resulted in school and other closures across Hampshire County, but few accidents as of late morning.
Snowfall totals ranged from approximately 7 inches in Chesterfield and surrounding hilltowns to less than 4 inches in South Hadley.
Easthampton Police reported Wednesday morning that Mountain Road was closed. The road was reopened at 2:45 p.m., police said.
The storm caused little trouble on the roads, although Hadley police reported two accidents Tuesday night that appeared to be related to the snow.
At 9:15 p.m., a motor vehicle crashed into a PVTA bus-stop enclosure behind Advanced Auto Parts on Russell Street, damaging the structure, police said. Nobody was waiting for a bus at the time and nobody was injured.
Earlier in the evening, a driver lost control of her vehicle on Hockanum Road and crashed into a tree. Extrication tools were needed to free the driver, who was the only occupant, and she was taken to Baystate Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, police said.
