Heavy rain moving into the western part of the state could create some hazardous driving conditions as temperatures linger near freezing, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton.
“Freezing rain is definitely possible,” said Lenore Correia, meteorologist at the National Weather Service. The rain is forecast to end by Tuesday evening.
The region is also under a dense fog advisory until 11 a.m. Tuesday.
“A Dense Fog Advisory means visibilities will frequently be reduced to less than one quarter mile, for at least 3 hours. If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you,” according to the National Weather Service.
Cold air is expected to stick around until mid-afternoon, when temperatures could reach the low 50s, Correia said. Overnight temperatures will drop back down around 30 degrees where they will remain on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday will see a return to near normal seasonal temperatures with highs in the upper 20s and in the 30s, according to Correia.
