WILLIAMSBURG — Back by popular demand, the second annual Fire and Ice community skating party will be held Feb. 10.
Sponsored by the Williamsburg Recreation Commission’s Community Ice Rink Committee, in partnership with the Williamsburg Grange and Williamsburg Fire Department, this unique winter soirée features ice skating, a bonfire with s’mores, games both on and off the ice, a potluck dinner and the screening and discussion of two locally produced films.
The event is held at an ice rink created on the lawn of the former Helen E. James School, with indoor activities taking place at the Grange Hall on Main Street.
The festivities begin at 3 p.m. The potluck dinner goes from 6-7 p.m. and those attending are asked to bring a casserole or salad. Desserts will be provided.
The films “Williamsburg Town Picnic Day” and “A Day at the Dump” will be shown at 7 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public.

WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual ice fishing derby on Feb. 11.
“It varies from year to year, but we usually get anywhere between 50 to 100 people,” said organizer Dave Punska.
Punska said that the grand prize this year is an 8-inch Jiffy gas ice auger.
“There will be three different fish categories, one for trout, one for bass and one for perch,” he said. “We will have first-, second- and third-prizes in each category.”
All fish will be judged by weight.
The event will also feature a $100 door prize, a 50/50 raffle and raffles for other prizes.
Punska said that participants need to bring their own equipment.
“We used to have food available, but that became a lot of work, so now we say that people should bring their own food too,” he said.
The derby takes place on Highland Lake at the DAR in Goshen and goes from dawn until 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 and kids under 10 years old get in for free when accompanied by an adult.
