NORTHAMPTON — A fire in a downtown apartment complex displaced one Northampton resident Friday night.
“When we went inside, they had smoke at the top of the stairs of the second floor,” said deputy fire chief Chris Norris. “They got it contained to one apartment. They knocked everything down and the fire is completely out.”
The fire started in a second-story apartment at 53 Clark Ave., to which firefighters responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. They were able to contain the blaze to the apartment unit, according to Norris, and had completely extinguished the flames by approximately 7:15 p.m.
“Everyone was able to self-evacuate,” Norris said Friday night, adding that a fire department investigator was working with the Northampton Police Department to determine a cause.
Three fire engines responded to the scene, including one from Easthampton. No injuries were reported.
