As a Northampton resident for over 20 years, I am proud to live in a place that has always stood on the side of activism for the causes of justice, peace and education.
In the wake of the tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, we must be sure to support the outspoken student activists and brave survivors by ensuring that all our local schools participate in the national school walkout March 14 at 10 a.m. in each time zone. Many Massachusetts high schools and middle schools already are planning to join in.
Another way to be involved is by attending the March For Our Lives sponsored by the youth branch of the Women’s March on March 24 in Boston.
I hope these, and other planned activities, will result in the equivalent of a “Million Children’s March” for the right of our youth not to live in continued fear of being gunned down by weapons of war in our schools and elsewhere.
