NORTHAMPTON — An organization of young activists that worked on President Barack Obama’s campaign a decade ago is being revived.

The Western Massachusetts Young Democrats, who elected an interim board of directors this week, will hold a 2018 kickoff event at Union Station from 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

“We’re really excited to help mobilize young people across western Massachusetts and show what young people can do,” said Chris Skutnik of Springfield, who is serving as the group’s interim chairman, in a statement.

Skutnik is joined by Jonathan Goldman of Northampton as the group’s outreach director, Benjamin Drake of Greenfield as its political director and Dylan Dubay of Erving as its social media director.

Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz and Young Democrats of Massachusetts President Matthew Murray are expected to attend Sunday’s event. Others invited include gubernatorial and Newton Mayor Setti Warren, Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim, who is running for secretary of state, and the four Democratic candidates for the 1st Franklin District seat held by Rep. Stephen Kulik, D-Worthington.

Goldman, the youngest member of the Democratic State Committee, said in a statement the group is about mobilizing political activists in the region.

“With amazing high school and college Democrat groups out here, we’re hoping we can help coordinate their efforts and connect young people who are not in school,” Goldman said.
