To the brave members of the Northampton Police Department (and all police departments), thank you for your courageous service to our communities.
Every day you come face to face with dangerous situations and continually keep us safe. You make split-second decisions, endure tense minutes and hours, and accept the responsibility that goes along with those decisions.
In these tumultuous times, we need to recognize your commitment to doing the right thing. You are not attorneys, judges, juries nor lawmakers. However, you are held to the highest level of upholding those laws, while defending our rights with dignity. The public continually asks the police to solve issues that we refuse to address as a country.
It’s time that we, as a community, come out publicly to give you the resources and support you need to do your job. We recognize the unheralded efforts that the entire police force demonstrates. We respect and appreciate your acts of service on which we have come to depend.
This is a time for us to come together with goodness and decency. It’s time for us to show grace and dignity as we voice different opinions, and to be tolerant as we share fears of what is happening around us and as we demonstrate that we have one goal: to protect our community.
To the brave members of the Northampton Police Department (and all police departments), we, the community, have your back.
