NORTHAMPTON — It’s been more than a week since a man’s body was found burning in a farm field in Hatfield, and his identity, as well as any other information surrounding the incident, remains a public mystery.

“The investigation is active and ongoing,” spokeswoman Mary Carey of the Northwestern district attorney’s office wrote in an email Wednesday. “Releasing further information at this time could jeopardize the investigation.”

Hatfield Police were called around 9:30 p.m. on March 10 for a reported fire off Bridge Lane, Hatfield Police Chief Mike Dekoschak told the Gazette a day after the incident. When officers arrived, they found a human body on fire.

Two days after the incident, the district attorney’s office announced that the body found on fire was a man. No further information has been released.

Bridge Lane turns into a dirt road leading up to the dike bordering the Connecticut River.
