EASTHAMPTON — Lennie and Elizabeth Appelquist, the owners of Cider House Media and active members of the Easthampton arts community, will open a second location in the former Nash Gallery on Cottage Street.
The new space, #LOCAL by Cider House, will be “an art gallery with a twist” and will also house a photo and video studio.
Cider House Media is a 15-person website design company that operates out of a 3,000-square-foot space at 28 Northampton St. That space has been a gallery stop on Art Walk Easthampton since the business opened in September 2015.
As members of the Cottage Street Cultural District Committee, the Appelquists are advocates for the local art community. One of their missions with their new venture is to benefit local artists and the surrounding businesses on Cottage Street.
The grand opening for #LOCAL by Cider House is set for May 12, the night of the May Art Walk in Easthampton.

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Franklin Hampshire Career Center is hosting the 11th Annual Spring Fling Job Fair at Frontier Regional High School at 113 North Main St., South Deerfield, on Wednesday, March 28, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The fair is open to anyone looking for a job. No preregistration is necessary, walk-ins are welcome and the event is free.
Career Center staff can guide job seekers through the job search process and assist with career counseling, assessment, job search workshops, such as resume writing and interviewing techniques.
AMHERST — Melissa Mueller, associate professor of classics at the University of Massachusetts, has been named a 2018 Frederick Burkhardt Residential Fellow by the American Council of Learned Societies.
With the support of the fellowship, Mueller, a specialist in archaic and classical Greek poetry, will be in residence for the 2019-20 academic year at the National Humanities Center in North Carolina. There she will pursue work on her project “Sappho and Homer: A Reparative Reading,” which investigates the complex emotional and aesthetic terrain of the oral-poetic song culture within which Sappho responded to Homer.
Burkhardt Fellowships carry a $95,000 stipend and a $7,500 research budget and allow awardees to take up year-long residencies at institutions whose resources and scholarly communities are ideally suited to facilitate the proposed research project.
FLORENCE — Florence Bank has named Erin Couture, of Southampton, as its Community Support Award winner for 2018.
The award was established in 1997 to recognize employees who are active participants in community events and donate their personal and professional time to local nonprofit organizations.
At Couture’s recommendation, Florence Bank will make a donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County, where she serves as president of the advisory board.
Couture, vice president of commercial loans and a commercial lender, joined Florence Bank in November 2011. She holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts, and a master’s in business administration from Western New England University.
HADLEY — Matt Parsons of Hadley placed second in the state in the 2017 National Corn Yield Contest, a non-irrigated class with a yield of 270.0564 bushels per acre.
Parsons was one of 426 state winners nationwide. The national contest, sponsored annually by the National Corn Growers Association, recognizes farmers from across the country for their exceptional efforts.
NORTHAMPTON — Nicholas Grimaldi has become a partner in the law firm of Fierst, Kane & Bloomberg LLP. Grimaldi joined the firm in 2014 and has over 18 years of experience as a lawyer. His practice will continue to focus on representing individuals, businesses and financial institutions in corporate transactions, real estate and secured lending, entertainment and interactive media law, creditor’s rights, and commercial matters.
Grimaldi is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the Boston University School of Law. He lives in Florence.
Peter T. Lane has become of counsel to the law firm. Lane has 10 years of experience representing individuals and businesses in civil and criminal litigation, including commercial litigation, landlord-tenant law, criminal defense and civil rights. A graduate of Fordham University and Brooklyn Law School, he is a resident of Shutesbury.
