FOXBOROUGH (AP) — A second suspect charged in connection with a burglary at New England Patriots player Rob Gronkowski’s Massachusetts home has been arraigned.
Eric Tyrrell, of Foxborough, was held on $1,000 bail Wednesday after pleading not guilty in Wrentham District Court to two counts of receiving stolen property.
Prosecutors say Tyrrell sold rare coins that had been stolen from one of Gronkowski’s roommates. Court records show nothing belonging to Gronkowski was stolen.
The Foxborough house was burglarized in February while the team was in Minnesota to play the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Authorities have recovered an Apple watch, a Rolex watch and the coins.
Tyrrell’s attorney says there’s no evidence his client was present during the break-in.
Another suspect already hasbeen arraigned. Police are still seeking a third.
LA’s Isaiah Thomas to have hip surgery
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Lakers guard Isaiah Thomas will have arthroscopic surgery on his right hip, ending his season.
The Lakers announced the decision Wednesday before their game against Dallas. Los Angeles (32-41) already is eliminated from playoff contention for the franchise-record fifth consecutive season.
Thomas averaged 15.6 points and 5.0 assists in 17 games with the Lakers, who acquired him from Cleveland in February. His hip problems also limited him to just 15 appearances with the Cavaliers.
Thomas will have surgery Thursday. The procedure typically requires months of rehabilitation.
Thomas is a two-time All-Star selection who will be a free agent this summer. He has expressed interest in staying with Los Angeles, but the Lakers will first attempt to sign two elite free agents to maximum contracts.
Royals C Perez out after knee injury
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Royals catcher Salvador Perez will miss up to six weeks after spraining the medial collateral ligament in his left knee when he missed a step while carrying a suitcase up stairs in his home.
The injury occurred Tuesday night, when the club returned to Kansas City from spring training. The five-time All-Star heard a “pop” and immediately called Royals trainer Nick Kenney, who advised Perez to ice the knee and come in for an MRI exam on Wednesday.
The exam revealed a Grade 2 sprain with a minor tear of the ligament.
No surgery is required, and recovery can be as little as four weeks. The injury leaves the Royals without one of their top hitters when they open the season against the White Sox on Thursday.
Drew Butera and Cam Gallagher are expected to share catching duties in Perez’s place.
