SPRINGFIELD — Western Massachusetts has a new primary liaison to Gov. Charlie Baker.

Patrick Carnevale, an emergency management official, has been appointed director of the governor’s western Mass. office in Springfield, Baker announced Tuesday.

Carnevale is a resident of Pittsfield and received a bachelor’s in business administration from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams before earning a master’s at Western New England University in Springfield.

Most recently, Carnevale served as a regional manager for the Mass. Emergency Management Agency and was in charge of the state’s emergency response in Central and Western Mass.

Carnevale held a similar position under Acting Governor Jane Swift, serving as her Springfield office’s deputy director.

“The communities and people of Western Massachusetts have much to offer the Commonwealth and I am pleased to contribute to furthering the Administration’s important work in the region,” Carnevale said in a statement.

Baker said in a statement that Carnevale is “uniquely qualified” for the position, adding that his Springfield office “serves as an important connector to support our constituents, local leaders and municipalities.”

Previous director Michael Knapik left his post in Springfield in February to take a position as a lobbyist for Baystate Health.
