GRANBY — Granby Police and fire responded to a morning accident Wednesday that left the vehicle totaled.

Police and fire from the town, as well as a fire engine from South Hadley, responded to a call that came in at 8:21 a.m. of a car colliding with a tree.

The accident happened on Chicopee Street, and the car was totaled, with rescuers having to use the Jaws of Life to extract the driver of the Chevy Cobalt sedan.

The driver was taken to Bay State Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. There were no passengers.

Police Officer Jason Richard said that, according to witnesses, the car slowly drove off the road, crossed marked lanes and struck a tree.

Richard said that the police are still investigating the accident.
