I was very disappointed that Heather Cahillane was not appointed director of the Northampton Senior Center (“Senior services pick gets pushback,” April 6).
I have been a volunteer since it opened, and have seen two directors and assistants leave. Heather has worked her way up the ranks. Does that not make her qualified?
I do not know Marie Westburg, who the mayor appointed to head Northampton Senior Services, though I am sure she is very qualified, too.
Ms. Cahillane’s personality is outstanding with the elderly, with smiles and hugs, and she talks to them with respect. Mary’s Bistro at the senior center has come alive under her and the staff. She is there for all events with her organizing skills and rapport with the staff.
I am not a professional, but to me Heather is as qualified as anyone.
