FLORENCE — A Florence bicyclist went to the hospital Tuesday morning after police said a car hit him.
Northampton Police responded to a report of bicyclist hit by a car near the intersection of Ryan Road and Brookside Circle around 8:45 a.m., according to Capt. John Cartledge.
The bicyclist, a man from Florence, told police as he was nearing the intersection he saw a red car approaching the intersection and became concerned it wasn’t going to stop at the stop sign because of its speed, Cartledge explained.
The cyclist attempted to swerve but was hit and knocked off his bike. The car left the scene, Cartledge said.
Officers on a traffic detail stopped the car on Nonotuck Street. The 30-year-old Florence woman driving the car was cited for leaving the scene of property damage and failing to stop at stop sign, Cartledge said. The woman will be summonsed to court.
The bicyclist initially declined medical attention but took himself to the hospital for pain, Cartledge said.
