Taking parking lot injustice to Hadley veterans

I write in reference to the Gazette’s April 18 editorial, “Legion must compromise in Hadley,” and the senior center.

There may be 1,800 senior citizens in Hadley, but only a very small number use the center.

The brand new $7.1 million building does not even have solar panels. At a cost of over $589 per square foot, why are these not included in the plans?

The lawsuit asks for the senior center to be pushed back, rather than consuming the upper parking lot the American Legion has been using for 65 years. Taking the parking lot is an injustice to the veterans of Hadley.

On a personal note, the third quarter installment of my real estate taxes increased by 20.46 percent from the second quarter. Excessive spending on projects like the senior center is hurting people on a fixed income, including the elderly, widows and the owners of small businesses and small farms.
