SOUTHAMPTON — The William E. Norris School sixth-grade class will host a fundraiser on Saturday that doesn’t require a checkbook, just a driver’s license.
The Ford Drive 4 UR School event offers test drives of new 2018 Ford vehicles to Southampton residents over 18. For every person who test drives a car, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the Norris school.
Sarah Pierce, the volunteer leader for the sixth-grade class, said the event could raise as much as $6,000, helping to fill the school’s financial gaps.
Pierce said those interested in test driving will fill out a brief questionnaire with no pressure to buy a car; they must also sign a waiver and only one test drive is allowed per household.
“It’s bringing the community together and at the same time, is a unique way of fundraising for the school,” Pierce said. “It’s giving back to the school and giving back to the community.”
Local Boy Scout troop 210 will sell food, drinks and baked goods on Saturday, according a press release for the event. Pierce said she expects a large turnout, and said it will be a fun community event.
The fundraiser will be held at the Norris School from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
