Criticizes President Trump’s insulting, offensive remarks

President Donald Trump cannot seem to go for more than a few days without saying something insulting or offensive.

The latest was his remark on May 16 referring to undocumented immigrants as “animals.” This comment follows in a long line of similar references: calling Haiti and some African nations “s—hole countries,” labeling Mexicans as “rapists” and stating that citizens of Puerto Rico weren’t working hard enough during the recovery from Hurricane Maria last fall.

A president sets a moral tone and can define boundaries of acceptable public speech.

From his campaign through the first 18 months of his presidency, Donald Trump has communicated that it is acceptable to refer to groups of American citizens in cruel and demeaning ways; that it is acceptable to demean a man like John McCain who was tortured for five years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War; and that it is acceptable to degrade and demean the FBI, CIA, and the Department of Justice.

I don’t understand how anyone of any party, particularly someone who served in the military, can support such a man as leader of our country.
