EASTHAMPTON — A rededication ceremony coming up Wednesday will celebrate a year of refurbishments to the Rotary gazebo in Easthampton.
“We just want to turn it back to the city better than the way it was,” said Rotarian Mike Buehrle.
Mayor Nicole LaChapelle, Rotary Club President Keith Hamilton and Rotarians will gather at 4:30 p.m. to thank those involved, including sponsors who donated materials to refurbish the iconic gazebo in the center of the Easthampton rotary where Northampton, Main and Pleasant streets merge.
Buehrle said the gazebo was in bad shape and needed a full refurbishment from top to bottom. Each year, the president of the Rotary Club chooses a project for the club; Hamilton this year chose to restore the gazebo to its previous condition.
Buehrle said the refurbishments on the prominent landmark in the middle of the city went on through the winter and wrapped up a little less than a month ago.
“People can’t believe the difference,” Buehrle said.
Pulaski Park, the small park in the center of the rotary in downtown Easthampton where the gazebo is located, hosts wedding ceremonies and small concerts throughout the year, as well as holiday lighting in December.
The park also contains the Kasimer Pulaski Monument, dedicated to the Polish war general, and a monument depicting the first town meeting house in Easthampton, according to the Easthampton city website.
