While I can appreciate the writer’s comic irony in his letter on the Trump administration’s decision to move the United States embassy to Jerusalem (“Reflections on American embassy in Jerusalem,” May 22), I wonder if it isn’t time that “shiksa” be retired?
It has always struck me as among the uglier terms in the Yiddish-derived American lexicon, and, while it may have had a certain utility in years past, it is high time it be sent packing along with other once-common terms of ethnic othering.
