The Amherst Regional boys tennis team reached the Western Massachusetts Division 1 semifinals for the first time since 2013 after beating Central 5-0 on Monday in Amherst.
The Hurricanes, the No. 2 seed, will await the winner of No. 3 Northampton vs. No. 6 Minnechaug on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The Blue Devils and Falcons were scheduled to play Monday, but the game was postponed by rain. They’ll play each other Tuesday.
Amherst’s James Serhant quickly dispatched No. 7 Central’s Hussain Abdi 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 singles, Eli Ji beat Hassan Bdi 6-1, 6-0.
Austin Xiong won his No. 3 singles match in straight sets over Justin Kiev, 6-0, 6-0 for Amherst (15-2).
Nathan Ji and Ethan Yu beat Ethan Lebeau and Hanson Hoang at No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 2 doubles, Andrew Ni and Rohan Shenov lost their first set 6-3 to Keegan Lebeau and Giahuy Lenguyen before rallying 6-0 in the second set and winning a 10-6 pro set to finish the match.
Chicopee Comp 12, South Hadley 5 — Julia Miele passed out four assists, but the Tigers fell in the opening round of the Division 2 Central/West tournament.
South Hadley (6-13) trailed 7-0 after the first half.
Hannah Bisson had a hat trick, while Bridget Sears and Bre Foley found the net.
Alyson Cote made 16 saves.
South Hadley seniors Jillian Whalen, Miele, Natalie Patruno, Olivia Cyr, Hanna Kopec and Kera Murphy played their final game for the Tigers.
