In Jay Fleitman’s June 5 column, “Uncertain path away from polarization,” he references Behar, Griffin, Gillibrand, Bee and Barr for coarsening our culture. Curiously, all these examples are female.
Fleitman states that he will not blame President Donald Trump, though, for this cultural coarsening, and offers not a single example of Trump’s egregiously coarse words — the outright lies, distortions, bullying and insults.
Words are indeed important. The path away from polarization, though, remains unattainable when an opinion piece lays blame only on one side of the longed-for American pathway to reconciliation and peace.
