A guy parks outside school grounds and takes out a long-barreled rifle to assemble it, waiting for a friend (“Man with gun at JFK causes lockdown,” June 8).
What this says to me is that as much as it might seem like a big fuss is being made about weapons and the threat of weapons in public, clearly not enough fuss is being made. Not enough, so that a gun owner, because he knows it’s a nonlethal weapon, is totally oblivious to the effect of his actions.
It’s time to up the ante on fuss with a proposal to have no guns in public. This is not taking any guns away — have them at home or at the range — but have them in public and it’s a year in prison.
Sorry, gun guys and gals, but you’re not getting the message, you’re not policing your own, and I offer this as the price for your irresponsibility.
