After reading “Gender & Politics” by Dave Eisenstadter (June 9-10), I had to respond to the line drawn in the sand by Rachel Gordon whose comments were hard to believe.
The criticism of the five individuals who had the audacity to elect to run by write-in for the seat vacated by Stanley Rosenberg goes totally against the present trend of encouraging people to get involved. What is even more disturbing is that Gordon goes further to level her criticism at the fact that four of the five are men. I don’t know where that leaves Jo Comerford.
I do not know why the individuals choose to run. It could be as simple as not liking an uncontested race or that they felt they were better qualified, as they may well be. In any event it is a right they exercised, for which I feel they should be applauded. Jonathan Hite put it best, “It’s not a men vs. women thing, it’s a qualification thing.”
Gordon is identified as the campaign manager for 1st Franklin House district candidate Francia Wisnewski. If she shares the views of Gordon, as a man I’d think twice before I voted.
