Children as young as infants forcibly separated from their parents and placed in tents and warehouses, families fleeing violence in their homelands being told that seeking asylum at our border is a crime, elected leaders claiming Biblical support for a barbaric policy: has it really come to this in the United States?
Let us be frank: these are atrocities. Pediatricians testify that this policy of the Trump administration is inflicting irreparable trauma on these innocent young people, not to speak of the agony their parents are going through.
Can we sit by and do nothing about such cruelty? If we do, history will judge us harshly. Will we someday have to say, “First they came for the asylum seekers, and I did not speak out, for I was not seeking asylum. Next they came for …”?
