SOUTH HADLEY — Three people were injured when a car crashed into a tree on College Street Friday morning.
South Hadley Police Chief Steve Parentela said first responders received calls of a crash at 7:36 a.m. when a car traveling north on Route 116 collided with a tree. All three people were transported to local hospitals by ambulance, two going to Baystate Medical Center and one to Holyoke Medical Center.
The driver was a 20-year-old Amherst man, Parentela said. The names and conditions of the people injured were not disclosed, but they were all adults, according to South Hadley Fire District No. 2 Fire Chief Scott Brady.
The front end of the blue Subaru Outback caught on fire after the vehicle’s occupants got out of the car. Firefighters extinguished the fire, Brady said.
The car struck a light pole first before crashing into the tree, according to Parentela.
South Hadley police blocked the road for 30 minutes while first responders worked at the scene. South Hadley Fire District No. 1 and the South Hadley Electric Light Department also responded to the incident.
