We encountered Sanford Lewis sitting in front of Amherst Coffee on a gray June morning.

Occupation: a lawyer “for socially responsible investors throughout the U.S.,” he says.

Lives in: Shutesbury. “I telecommute and often work here in the mornings.”

Dog’s name: “Rufus. He’s a rescue from Puerto Rico. If you Google ‘RedRover and Rufus,’ you can find an article online about the airlift and his new life.” Full name: Rufus McScuffyFace.

What he’s wearing (Sanford, not Rufus): “These are my computer glasses. I wear these pants every day — they are yoga stretch pants from Eddie Bauer. They have really good zipper pockets; I do a lot of kayaking, so I keep my gear in them.” The sandals are by Chaco. “I just got them, and I’m really excited about them.” He recently inherited the straw hat from his father. “It’s definitely a different feeling. I’m not sure if it’s me or not.”
