Plastic foams are some of widest reaching forms of trash I see in our state. The wind carries the lightweight material around our environment and the rain eventually washes it down into our waterways.
As Gazette columnist Johanna Neumann wrote last Wednesday (โKick plastic foam habit in Massachusettsโ), microplastics have made their way into our freshwater systems as well as our oceans. Pieces both large and small make their way into marine life and travel up the food chain all the way to us.
Nothing we use for five minutes should pollute our environment for hundreds of years. We donโt need it and our children will be grateful that we put a stop to it now.
Our state representatives should take a huge step toward protecting our environment by banning foam cups and takeout containers.
