I commend the Northampton Department of Public Works employees for their efforts to repair the water main on North King Street last week.
The location was the source of problems during the winter and crews made repairs in terrible conditions and always got the water back on. This most recent repair was planned in advance and the residents were notified.
Most appreciated was the scheduling and the communication. We were warned that the water would most likely be off from 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday. I was not inconvenienced at all.
I know the DPW workers were compensated for the overnight work, but I’m sure for many it was not their regular shift (I hate it when I have to work overnight). Cheers for the people who make water coming out of the tap something we take for granted. It’s not magic. It’s hard work and planning.
