Unfortunately, our current secretary of state picked the Tuesday after Labor Day for this year’s primary election, which will mean a reduced voter turnout due to people being away on vacation and several schools starting on that day.
We should be making it easier for people, especially young people, to vote. I’m supporting Josh Zakim to be our next secretary of state because he will do everything he can to increase voter turnout.
Zakim is running on a platform of increasing registered voters and voter access, as well as increasing records transparency and responsiveness to records requests. Same-day voter registration increased voting in some other states by 10 percent, but our current secretary has fought against this in Massachusetts.
Zakim was endorsed by the Massachusetts Democratic Party, Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz, Progressive Mass, and so many others because it’s time for a new, bold, and progressive secretary of state. Join me in voting for Zakim on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
